Ski Club Uganda’s June Pilot Project: Adventure Meets Purpose

Updated: Jan 24

Hello, adventurers and changemakers!

We’re thrilled to announce that our June Pilot Project is gaining momentum faster than we imagined. Although we haven’t officially shared it with the world, the buzz is undeniable. Here’s the inside scoop on what’s happening and why you’ll want to be part of it.

The Team Behind the Trees

This past week, a powerhouse team—including Dr. Bob Nakileza, Morgan, and myself—met to brainstorm how we can blend impactful student research with our mission to reforest Kilembe. Spoiler alert: it’s going to be groundbreaking. Oh, and we’ve officially dropped the formalities—Dr. Ivory is now just Sarah!

But it’s not just about planting trees. Pauli, one of our champions, gave Ski Club Uganda its first public presentation at the Brown Bag Lunch Group. This networking event brought together European executives from IT, Health, and Defense sectors. The audience was hooked! The session ran overtime thanks to a flood of questions.

If you’re looking for an engaging speaker for your next event, let us know—Pauli’s ready to inspire.

Seamless Logistics, Thanks to RTS

Planning an epic adventure like this requires a top-notch logistics team, and we’ve found ours: RTS. They’ll handle everything—airport pick-ups, lodging in Kilembe, mountain treks, and even optional safaris or gorilla expeditions for those extending their stay.

Here are the key dates to note:

  • Best time for the trip: June 15th - July 5th

  • Travel suggestions:

    • Americans: Depart June 13th, return July 6th or 7th

    • Europeans: Depart June 14th, return July 6th

Why June? It’s right after the May flood season, giving us the perfect window to plant bamboo that will stabilize the riverbanks and prevent future erosion. Plus, the schedule maximizes weekends, so you don’t have to burn too many vacation days (you’re welcome!).

The Ultimate Itinerary

This trip offers something for everyone:

  • Tree Planting: Eight days of hands-on reforestation work alongside the local community.

  • Mountain Trekking & Skiing: Eight days of adventure on the slopes, skiing one of the last glaciers.

  • Custom Options: Can’t make the whole trip? No worries. Whether you join for just the planting, skiing, or a few days, your presence matters.

And it’s more than just physical work. The Kilembe community is eager to welcome us. Plans are underway for school debates on the benefits of reforestation and even a community play. It’s a cultural exchange you won’t forget.

Why Are We Doing This?

Because we’re not just a nonprofit—we’re a movement.

This trip isn’t just about making a difference today; it’s about creating a sustainable future. By combining voluntourism with conservation, we’re setting the stage for future initiatives where adventure fuels impact. Imagine volunteers paying to plant trees and ski, with funds reinvested into ongoing reforestation efforts.

Media coverage will amplify our story, inspiring others to join or support this cause.

Join the Info Session

Curious about the trip? We’re hosting an information call on February 1st at 10am EST. We’ll cover everything: itinerary, costs, flights, packing tips, and more. Save the date and join us here.

Donations That Make a Difference

We’re also celebrating some amazing contributions! A huge thank-you to Felix Knollmann and Elisabeth Purtscher for their donations, which will help us store media in the cloud for five months.

And in a fun twist, I donated 40 euros from a casino win to Ski Club Uganda. If you’ve ever thought about contributing, today’s a great day to start. Every bit helps us reach our goals.

Be Part of the Story

This June, we’re not just planting trees or skiing mountains—we’re building a legacy. Whether you join us in Kilembe or support from afar, you’re part of something extraordinary.

Stay tuned for updates, and as always, thank you for being part of the Ski Club Uganda family.
