OUR
PROJECT

We are partnering with the Uganda Conservation Foundation to launch a significant environmental initiative: the Tree Nursery Planting Project. This project aims to plant one million indigenous trees on communal lands in the Rwenzori area. These trees will help restore the ecological balance, provide sustainable resources, and protect the region from the devastating effects of deforestation and climate change.

WHY IT MATTERS

The Rwenzori region is home to impoverished agricultural communities that rely heavily on tourism and cash crops for survival. However, tourism is already limited—Mt. Rwenzori sees only about 400 visitors per year compared to the over 1 million that visit Kilimanjaro. As the Stanley Glacier continues to melt, this already sparse tourism income is expected to decrease further.

Deforestation for cash crops has weakened the soil, especially in hilly areas where the deep roots of indigenous trees once provided stability. The combination of glacial melt and deforestation has led to frequent and deadly mudslides, destroying fields, homes, and lives.

OUR IMPACT

By planting one million trees, we are helping these communities transition to a future without the glacier. The trees will not only restore the ecological balance but also provide food, wood, and income for the local population. The species we plant are carefully selected from the Rwenzori and neighboring Kibale National Forests to meet the health, wood, and nutrition needs of the community.
